[Report] Fedora 17 Release Party @ Taichung
Fedora 17 was released on May 27, 2012. It contained many latest development results from free and open source community at the time.
From user aspect, the improvements were GNOME 3.4, KDE 4.8, new iBus Indic Typing Booster, built-in Korean font changed from Un to Nanum, Blender 2.6.1, Gimp 2.8.0, CUPS colord profile service suport, etc.
To let more and more people know Fedora Project and new features of Fedora 17 better, the ambassador in Taiwan, Cheng-Chia Tseng, hosted "Fedora 17 Release Party @ Taichung" event to share the news with those who are interesting on June 3, 2012.
Cheng-Chia requested a ticket to host the event at Blackcat Moon Cafe in Taichung City, Taiwan. It locates at No.111, Dadun 20th St., Xitun Dist., Taichung City 407, Taiwan (R.O.C.). The site rental expense of 2nd floor also provided some cakes and coffees. After the discussion on APAC ambassadors biweekly meeting, the requested ticket was agreed. Thus, attendees could have around TWD 200 to order some cakes and coffees for free. It was comfortable, easy, and joyful.
The cafe was not easy to find because of its small round shop sign, so we attached a poster in the front to help attendees find it easier.
After you came, you could order a cup of coffee!
Besides coffee, there were some handmade egg-rolls.
The event arrangers were preparing their talks before the event.
After the opening of the event, people were asked to give self-introduction to know each other more.
After the self-introduction, Fedora ambassador Cheng-Chia Tseng started to introduce Fedora's history, core spirits, new features of F17, and gave some introduction about the the GNOME 3.4 he uses.
Plus, he also shared some resources and communication ways for Taiwan Fedora community. It included newly created Fedora Facebook group, Fedora users forum http://fedora.tw/ , and Fedora Taiwan Community Support http://fedora.linux.org.tw/ 。
WM Chang gave some tips about configuring Systemd, such as disabling some services to boost startup speed.
There was still half an hour before ending, attendees were welcomed to share their experience.
Allan Lu (the upper) talked about Google Apps Script while Max Wu (the lower) shared the private issue and Duck Duck Go and a introduction to phpvirtualbox.
